Yeah, that can't possiblie go badly. Well, I suppose it's too late, but I
think that maybe you should have expected problems with CourseBook and
planned ahead.
Haha, I'm sorry, that's just stupid. Anyways, if the ECE department can't
make a server that can withstand students actually submitting assignments,
then I think they'll have to deal with it. I know CS servers have screwed
up under heavy load before and the course staff have been able to deal
with it in a fair and reasonable way almost all of the time, so I wouldn't
worry too much.
Honestly, I think the whole CourseBook for submitting assignments is
incredibly silly. The submit program used in CS is a perfectly good,
reliable, and robust tool...everything a software engineer should want.
Neither CourseBook nor submit may be meant for something this big, but
maybe take a lesson from Graphics or Realtime wherein you submit a
checksum (or use the modification date) of your directory and make it
readable to course staff -- the checksum/modification date ensures that
you don't modify it after the deadline, and there's no moving of massive
files.
